3-Tier Protection System For BESS
Given the immense power of BESS, it requires stringent monitoring. PKNERGY’s advanced three-tier battery alert mechanism is designed to ensure the safe operation of the BESS.
BMU (Battery Management Unit):
The BMU collects individual battery cell voltage, temperature, voltage data, and fan speed. It calculates battery characteristics, alarm and protection status, logs important events, and executes temperature control and balancing strategies from the BCMS. It also reports battery-related data to the BCMS.
BCMS (Battery Cluster Management System):
The BCMS processes voltage, current, and temperature information from the battery cluster and its modules. It calculates SOC, SOH, charge/discharge capacity, and protection status, while sending data to the BAMS. It logs critical operations, alarms, and protection events in real-time and follows control instructions from the BAMS.
BAMS (Battery Stack Management System):
The BAMS processes voltage, current, and temperature information from all battery modules. It calculates SOC, SOH, charge/discharge capacity, and protection status, executing corresponding dispatch, temperature control, and balancing strategies. It logs all system operations and sends data to the cloud platform for real-time online monitoring and BESS management.

The solution utilizes CATL LiFePO4 cells and a liquid cooling system for heat dissipation. With a designed lifespan of 18 years, the system is projected to save the company more than 1 million RMB in energy expenses over its lifetime. Additionally, the energy storage system serves as a backup power supply, ensuring continuous operation during power outages or restrictions, thereby minimizing economic losses caused by production disruptions.
